Your images are good, but do they really have impact?
I’m excited to be delivering a brand new Bend photography workshop next month (that’s Bend, Oregon). I’m calling it The Impact Factor, Taking Your Images from Good to Great. We’ve all heard compliments on our photos from various sources, and it’s great to be told that your photos are nice, but when we talk about the images that really stand out, it’s all because of an impact that they have. It’s an emotional connection that it has with the viewer. When we think about the images that have the greatest impact, it’s those where the maker has both demonstrated technical proficiency along with a creative or emotional side to the image that really gives it that added oomph to connect with the viewer.
This workshop will bring together a combination of some material I’ve presented in the past in other settings, along with a whole bunch of brand new material that I’ve put together specifically for this audience. The workshop is hosted by the Cascade Camera Club. Find out more on their website and get the details on the location, and registration information.
My goal is that I’m going to present a framework that photographers can use to evaluate their own work and considerations for both in the field and in editing to take your work and give it as much impact as possible. For professional photographers, it’s going to help you ensure that your images have the greatest impact with your clients. Happy clients lead to repeat clients, and that leads to clients who make bigger purchases, right? For photographers who are hobbyists, again, you’re going to learn how to take your images from good to great, and you’re going to find out how to ensure that your images stand out, since it seems that everyone’s a photographer.
If you enter your images in image competition, whether that’s through PPA, PSA, or another group such as WPPI or ASMP, these techniques will help your images resonate with the judges and jurors.
I’m excited for this. It should be fun. We’re going to spend a full day talking about how to make our images better. I hope you can join me. Again, you can find out more about the details from the Cascade Camera Club’s website, or if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
