Your blog says… what?
So you’re a photographer with a blog.
That’s a good thing. A blog that’s updated a few times a month can be a huge asset for search engine traffic as well as offering a glimpse at your activities as a photographer.
But wait… what should you write about?
Photography Blog Audience
Consider your photography blog audience. My suspicion is that it falls into one of two general buckets:
- you’re trying to solicit clients, so your blog ought to appeal to someone wanting to hire you
- you just want to write about photography topics, which will probably be of interest to other photographers.
Those are two distinct audiences, reflecting two distinct purposes for the blog posts on your website.
Readers in each of these audiences probably don’t care about the topics for the other audience. A potential client is going to lose interest if you’re waxing poetic about your latest camera bag. They don’t care. They care about your images and your professionalism. Likewise, a photographer probably isn’t going to be riveted to your website to check out your latest senior portraits.
Consider the focus of your blog. If you’re trying to land new clients, write about topics of interest to your clients. If you want to chat photography, your blog should be focused on the photography topics – but realize that a blog of photography topics isn’t likely to gather many new leads.
