Hello Idaho! And internet!
This has been in the works for a while and I’m excited to finally be able to share it.
Next month, I’m teaming up with Bryan Welsh for two full days of photography education in the Boise area (and also live-streamed).
Here’s a summary; hit the event webpage to learn more.
Monday June 27th: The Competition Code
Bryan and I are co-leading this full day workshop on formal image competition. We’ll cover topics for both newer and experienced competitors, including:
- PPA’s Twelve Elements of a Merit Image (the criteria used for judging)
- Titles and other factors that also affect how an image will perform
- A look into the judging process and judges’ mindset
Bryan is a PPA Affiliate juror, I’ve been a PPA juror in training for a bit over a year, and we both have many years of experience judging at the state level. We’re going to bring our experiences as jurors (and as award-winning competitors) to help folks learn how to make more impactful images for competition.
Tuesday June 28th: Marketing
Tuesday features two distinct (but related) programs. In the morning, Bryan will present The Marketing Riddle (and how to solve it for success). It’s his fresh take on modern photography marketing by focusing that effort on your ideal client.
After lunch, I’m presenting Email: Fresh Opportunities for Photography and Beyond, an email marketing program that goes beyond the usual pattern we see with most photographers. The State of the Creator Economy 2022 report (here’s my take in a short video) found most serious creators identifying email as their most important channel, but many photographers fall into antipatterns. We’ll look at how to make your email campaigns attractive for your audience (building on the morning material) and then how that audience will lead to increased sales for your photography ventures.
These Boise photography workshops are hosted by the Professional Photographers of Idaho (membership not required to attend). Find out more or register through the event website. I hope to see you there (in-person or on the livestream).
