I’m looking forward to serving.
Members of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) recently elected me to serve as a Washington PPA Councilor for the next three years. As PPA puts it:
PPA Councilors are professional photographers who volunteer their time and service to guide and act as the voice for their state’s PPA members. Duties include discussing and voting on changes to the bylaws and the association’s leadership (via the election of the Nominating Committee and the Board of Directors). They also play a crucial role in sharing the PPA message to existing, new, and prospective PPA members in their state.
As PPA evolves with the changing world of photography, I’m excited to participate in a new-to-me way. The days where PPA primarily represented full-time studio portrait and wedding photographers have passed. As photographers use different equipment, changing business models, and entirely new platforms for distribution of their work, industry organizations such as PPA can help guide the conversations. Photography and visual media are as important as they ever were, and I look forward to working with other folks from around the country to ensure that PPA evolves in productive ways.
As a Washington PPA Councilor, I’ll be working with three other professional photographers from our state to represent Washington photographers to the national organization. Although there’s a vibrant photography community across the country (and around the world), PPA’s membership tends to skew southern and eastern, but it’s important for those of us on the other corner of the country to be heard as well. My first Imaging USA as a PPA Councilor will be outside of Dallas in February; it’ll be great to see tons of photography friends again there.
